Education, Training & Experience

General Training

Dr Davide Altamura completed his initial medical education in Italy at the highly respected medical university of Siena before training in general dermatology and venereology, eventually gaining a coveted postgraduate Master Degree in Dermato-surgery. He moved to the UK, undertaking further training and then joining the GMC specialist register in 2014.

This extensive and broad training, in both adults and children, has allowed him to become a board certified dermatologist in both the EU and the United Kingdom, before moving to Cayman in 2021.

His training and practice covers a wide range of both acute and chronic dermatology conditions which he was managing across an extensive cohort of patients until moving to the Cayman Islands. Across his training and experiences, in the UK being fortunate to work as a consultant in no less than 6 centres for dermatology, he was exposed to a wide variety of conditions from the comparatively simple to highly complex, including as a tertiary specialist. During these experiences, Davide developed a passion for the early diagnosis and effective treatment of lesions, including malignant skin cancers, for which he gained significant respect for his work.

His European CCST includes Venereology, which adds an extra dimension to his professional activity in the area of male genital disorders. He is a member of British Association of Dermatologists and European Academy of Dermato-Venereology.

Skin Cancer Identification & Treatment

Davide’s special interest is the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant lesions, and especially the effective use of Dermoscopy in their early identification. Consequently, he has received advanced training in dermoscopy and the diagnosis of skin cancers and has a significant body of widely published internationally recognised scientific articles on this topic.

Following his postgraduate training, he took up a coveted post as research fellow at the Sydney Melanoma Diagnostic Centre, one of the World’s most recognised centres of excellence in the identification and management of skin cancer. Since 2009, he has been working as an expert member of the multidisciplinary skin cancer services at various NHS Trusts.

Davide joins Integra to augment our existing strong clinical dermatology service  in Cayman and specifically to ensure that patients with suspicious lesions receive expert assessment and the earliest possible treatment. He will lead the Integra screening and early identification service and we are justifiably proud of the strength this will bring to our service in this most important of areas.
