ADHD Assessment Packages FAQs

1. What is the purpose of an ADHD assessment?

Early ADHD assessments help families understand their child’s neurological profile, ensuring they receive tailored support to thrive. Assessments should take into consideration the physical and mental health of your child, while looking for ADHD symptoms. A formal diagnosis of your child’s behavior can help teachers, caregivers, and healthcare professionals provide the right interventions.

2. Who conducts the assessments?

The ADHD assessments are led by Dr. Tamara Bugembe, a UK-trained pediatrician with specialized expertise in neurology and neurodevelopment. Her experience includes supporting children with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delays, and neurobehavioral challenges. Her gold-standard assessment approach is that which aligns with the clinical practice guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Psychiatric Association.

3. What are some of the most common symptoms of ADHD?

Each child’s symptoms vary and often present differently depending on factors such as underlying developmental disorders, other health conditions and family history. Most often, a stakeholder in the child’s life (teacher, health care provider) will request an assessment after noticing ongoing unnecessary fidgeting, sporadic impulsivity, inattention, careless mistakes in schoolwork, and/or squirms.

4. What does the assessment process involve for the diagnosis of ADHD?

The assessment follows a four-step approach:

  • Step 1: Initial Visit
Dr. Bugembe meets with your family to understand your child’s strengths, developmental history, medical history, and family history. This includes a neurological examination to rule out other medical conditions that may be possible causes of presenting symptoms of ADHD.
  • Step 2: Information Gathering
Parents, teachers, select family members, and (if aged 11+) children complete online questionnaires (a key screening tool) to provide insights into behavioral patterns across different settings. If your child has a dedicated primary care provider, they will also be engaged to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your child’s needs and history
  • Step 3: Conclusion Visit
Findings are reviewed against diagnostic criteria (DSM-5). For each disorder included in DSM, a set of diagnostic criteria aligned with rating scales indicates symptoms that must be present (and for how long) as well as a list of other symptoms, disorders, and conditions that must first be ruled out to qualify for a particular diagnosis. Parents receive a detailed discussion about the diagnosis, potential treatments, and recommendations.
  • Step 4: Diagnostic Report
A comprehensive report summarizes the findings, offering an actionable treatment plan with steps and a toolkit of resources to support your child.

5. What guidelines are followed during the assessment?

Our process aligns with the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and U.S. American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines, ensuring that the diagnosis and reports are recognized internationally, including in the UK and US.

6. Does the package include treatment?

While treatment isn’t part of the assessment package, you have the option to continue care with Dr. Bugembe. This ensures continuity in goal-setting and follow-ups tailored to your child’s needs. With over 10 years of experience in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children and adolescents, she is positioned to

7. How much does the assessment cost?

The total cost of the ADHD Assessment Package is $1,500 KYD, which includes:

  • Two 60-minute clinic visits.
  • A comprehensive diagnostic report.

A deposit of $1,025 KYD is required before the first appointment, with the balance payable after the final visit.

8. Does insurance cover the assessment?

We accept BritCay Premier and Aetna insurance plans and will verify benefits. Coverage may vary based on your policy, and families should be prepared for potential out-of-pocket expenses. For other insurers, full payment is required upfront.

9. What if additional investigations are needed?

Occasionally, further investigations, such as MRI scans, may be recommended. These are not included in the package and would incur additional costs. As Integra Healthcare is a part of the Doctors Hospital Health System, a continuum of care and easy referral options are in place, should you choose to remain under the care of one of our providers.
