About Influenza (Flu)

Influenza is a potentially serious disease, leaving most feeling pretty horrible and confined to bed for a few days at a time, and in some casest can lead to hospitalisation and even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently, but typically millions of people get flu every year, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalised and thousands to tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes every year. An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against flu, especially against its more serious effects, including in children.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the single best way to protect against flu is to get vaccinated each year.

Integra charges purely for the administration of the vaccine, at $25.00 per person. (For those over 16 years of age and uninsured under 16s)

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get an influenza (flu) vaccine every season with rare exception. CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has made this recommendation since the 2010-11 influenza season.

Vaccination to prevent flu is particularly important for people who are at high risk of developing serious flu complications. This year, we are also concerned about co-infection illness severity due to Covid too. See People at High Risk of Developing Flu-Related Complications for a full list of age and health factors that confer increased risk (click blue link for more info).

Integra charges purely for the administration of the vaccine, at $25.00 per person. (For those under 16 years of age and uninsured under 16s)

When Should I Get Vaccinated?

Ideally, ou should get a flu vaccine before flu viruses begins spreading in your community, since it can take about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against flu. However, getting vaccinated later is still beneficial and vaccination should continue to be sought throughout the flu season, even into January or later.

Children who need two doses of vaccine to be protected should start the vaccination process sooner, because the two doses must be given at least four weeks apart.

UNDERSTANDING THE FEES

Integra charges a flat rate of $25.00 per vaccine administration. There is no charge for the vaccine itself. The charge purely covers the fairly considerable paperwork requirements associated with the vaccine administration. Some individuals may be able to claim most of it back from their insurance company. Integra does not submit the claims for this service and it is up to individuals who want to claim to do so using the bill we will provide you with. We adopt this approach to keep the cost down to a bare minimum for all.
