Making Waves Cayman’s Community Unites for Inaugural Integra Healthcare Sea Swim

Hundreds of Cayman’s community members joined the Cayman Islands Aquatics Sports Association (CIASA) at Governor’s Beach this past Saturday for the inaugural Integra Healthcare Sea Swim.

Over 100 registrants ranging in age from 6 to over 80 years old, participated in the 400m and 800m swims. Dr Tanushree Bhakta-Perry who practices as a General Practitioner at Integra Healthcare and is also a board member of CIASA, shared her reason for championing the partnership: “Swimming is an amazing low impact activity that helps develop strength and maintain mobility and muscle movement. At Integra we serve patients across newborn to old age care and given that we have such close access to the beach, I often recommend getting out and into the water as a way to maintain overall health.”

The date for the sea swim was chosen to fall just after National Public Health Week, with Healthy Neighborhoods as its theme for 2024. Matthew Pellow, Director at Integra offered, “We are truly committed to our community and the well-being of our fellow residents. Supporting initiatives like this swim is just one way in which we work to build healthy neighbourhoods. For the past 5 years that we’ve been operating, not a single decision has been made without considering the need for more accessible and quality healthcare, and we’re proud to continue that as we grow and expand our services.”

The day presented perfect conditions for a swim on Seven Mile Beach. After the swim was complete, a short medal ceremony took place, hosted by a CIASA Board Representative. She thanked Integra for being an ally of Cayman’s swimming community and noted that she was encouraged by seeing multiple generations of families out for the event.
